This week I’ve been having fun with alcohol…alcohol INK that is! I hope you enjoy this series of photos of the work I created over the course of the week; the part 1 process video will drop sometime this weekend with part 2 following next week.
The lanterns above were created on translucent Yupo paper (Yupo “paper” is synthetic - basically plastic) using three of my stencils available from Stencilgirl Products. There are three flower designs, each includes the stencil and the mask. The stencil design is the positive pattern - the area left open into which media is applied - while the mask is the negative pattern - the area removed to create the stencil. Stencil and mask are essentially the reverse of each other. The Canna Lilies piece at the top of this post was created from the mask. The following two pieces were also created from the masks.
When working with stencils there is always residual paint or ink left on it which provides an additional opportunity to create more art. Many artists call the resulting “print” a ghost print. These often turn out surprisingly delightful on their own or can be used for collage or as a starting point for additional mixed media work. I usually make these on plain printer paper or cardstock. I really like how the irises turned out:
Here’s the original snowdrop piece that I made into the lantern…
…one of the ghost prints (I got two from this one - enough ink was on both sides of the stencil) and…
…finally, here is the other ghost print doodle.
See you again soon!
Just gorgeous, lovely colours 💙
Welcome back, I always enjoy an intermission with your art posts, a great little break from my usual addictive diet of psychotic government nonsense reporting.
